We give a lecture at Tokyo University of the Arts and other art universities once a year ,and hold workshops at museums. We explain and demonstrate the process of making Japanese style paintbrushes, exhibit materials, and have students experience the part of process to make brushes and Hake.

    Using Power Point, we provide a general lecture on brush manufacturing, history, etc.

  • Displaying materials

    Raw hair is an essential item that is indispensable for brush artisans. You can fully understand and acquire a deeper knowledge by knowing and learning about the raw materials we utilize.

  • Brush making demonstration

    We will show you the highlighted process of brush making, such as Manual Shaping Method, mixing of the hair, and burning at the heels using an electric –iron.

  • Brush making(Wrapping heel hair with thread, burning by electric-iron)

    You can experience the process of wrapping the finished heel hair with thread, burning it and attaching it to the handle.

  • Hake making
     

    You can also experience how to spread natural glue and press into Hake boards.

    It is possible to color the Hake which you made and have the brush complete by a Japanese lacquer artisan
